First off, I just want to thank all of you who have sent me information to add to this page. Your contributions have really helped make this a useful discography. At some point, I may split this page into 4 pages (Danny Wilson, Solo, King L, Transister). That should make things easier to digest. I would also like to do a brief interview with Gary if I can get a hold of him.
If you have relevant info regarding any of these projects, please send it along. It is very difficult to get much info here in the US (I'm in Seattle). Gary's solo album and the fine King L album were never even released here. It's really a shame, particularly in the case of King L which is a terrific album and deserves to be heard by more people. In my opinion, Gary Clark is one of the best vocalist and songwriters in pop music, and it's a shame that most people only know him for one song ("Mary's Prayer" obviously).
Latest News
22 Mar 04Unfortunatley, Jennix pulled the plug on her old Danny Wilson email list. But I have resurrected it as the same name. You'll have to go to the Danny Wilson / Gary Clark list and reregister. I haven't really heard much about Gary's activities lately, so if you have some news, I encourage you to join the mailing list and post it, and we will get the ball rolling again. Cheers!
5 May 02 Gary is excited to be performing his first-ever gig in Japan in May, along with Boo Hewerdine (The Bible) and Ricky Ross (Deacon Blue). Sounds like it could be a really great show!
GARY CLARK / BOO HEWERDINE / RICKY ROSS
Venue: Star Pine's Cafe, Kichijoji, TOKYO
Dates: 19, 20 & 21 May
Format: Each artist will perform a 45 minute set on their own, and will then
do a few songs together at the end of the gig.
24 April 02 Gary is playing a rare gig Thursday, April 25th in London at Cabot Hall, Docklands. Also on the bill are Boo Hewerdine, Chris Difford, and Revolver. Show starts at 8:15.
Also, Danny Wilson are featured in a "Where are they now" column in the May issue of Q magazine.
06 November 01 Natalie Imbruglia released her new album on November 5 in Europe. The album features Gary Clark in production and co-writing role on several tracks. You can purchase White Lilies Island at Amazon.Co.Uk* and several other shops. The new album will be released in the US in late November.
Also, I've got a streaming version online of Danny Wilson's Mary's Prayer.
17 June 01 Over the next few weeks I will be making an effort to update parts of this site. I plan to revise and bring up-to-date the "Other" section where I discuss Gary's work with other artists. I will also re-encode some sound samples at better fidelity and add samples of a few more b-sides. I've also begun to add small scans of singles into the discography section. I don't necessarily plan to have scans of every item, but enough to add some graphical appeal to that section. I have trimmed the news section quite a bit, and put previous news on its own page. I updated the masthead for the site, though it may be more interim than final. We'll see... :)
13 June 01 Another huge time lag since the last update...sorry about that. I'm planning an email interview with Gary very soon. He and his wife Alison are currently in Los Angeles where Gary is doing some co-writing. Not sure who with, but you can bet I will ask him in the interview :)
Gary has two co-writes that were recently issued, both with recently reunited Scottish popsters Deacon Blue. "Even Higher Ground" appears on the album "Homesick" while "Hey Craig" appears as a b-side on part-1 of the single "Every Time You Sleep".
Finally, here's a short cover fragment that was tucked into the extended jam outro of A Girl I Used to Know.
25 Oct 00 Wow...it's been far too long since the last update...sorry about that. I don't always have a lot of news, but today I do. Gary has been wearing his producer hat recently, and has signed with Worlds End who represent a lot of well-known producers (check out the list). He will have producer and songwriting credits on the forthcoming Natalie Imbruglia album.
Alison Clark recently wrote and reiterated that Gary does hope to release another solo album someday. Until then, I'll share the following rarity. Many of you may know that Gary wrote the song "Hope, Prayer and Time" for Julia Fordham's album "Falling Forward". What you may not know, is that he performed his own version of this track on a BBC Radio One Session in the early 90's. I have created a 351KB clip of the performance. The session also featured "We Sail on the Stormy Waters", "Baby Blue No. 2", and a cover of the gospel classic "I'll Fly Away".
Finally, even though Gary is no long with Transister, I thought I would mention that there are three (count 'em) Transister fan sites: Look Who's | Perfect | Now

I sampled a few tracks for you to listen to. Most of these are out of print I believe, so hopefully the record co. won't mind me making these short samples available. They are (non-streaming)

Following the dissolution of King L, Gary and Eric wrote some songs with Eric's girlfriend Keely. The songs were so good that Eric took them to the states and got "Transister" a record deal.
Other Appearances
I plan to revise this area. In the meantime, I will summarize things by saying Gary has two recent cowrites with Deacon Blue...one on the album "Homesick" and the other on a single off the album. Gary also co-wrote "That Boy" with Lloyd Cole which appears on his latest album "The Negatives" and on an earlier Lloyd Cole collection. Gary also wrote and produced songs on Hepburn's album. Last but not least, Gary co-wrote the song "Ghosts" for the most recent Colin Vearncombe (aka Black) album.
Gary is all over Lauren Christy's album "Breed". He plays on and wrote several of the tracks, and sings a duet on "Burn". Check out this Lauren Christy fan site for samples. Gary also co-wrote the song "Rain" on Lauren's debut album.
Gary wrote a song for Julia Fordham called "Hope Prayer and Time". He is also credited with background vocals on the track, but they are buried deep in the mix. The track appears on her album "Falling Forward".
Solo b-side "Guaran-damn-tee" is covered by Bobby Valentino on his UK album "You're In the Groove Jackson". Since the album never actually reached shops due to financial problems with the label, it may be easier to find under it's US name "You're Telling Me" or its Japanese name "This is Murder". Three countries, three names, same album.
Gary appears on "Baptist Hospital" by Boo Hewerdine (ex-Bible, ex-The Great Divide). Two of the songs on the album are "Last Cigarette" and "Greedy". Both are co-written with Gary and also appear on the King L album. Boo's version of "Greedy" features Eddi Reader (ex-Fairground Attraction) on backing vocals. The third Gary Clark co-written song is "Junk". I believe this album is out-of-print.
"Last Cigarette" appears on the cigarette-themed album by k.d. lang entitled "Drag".
For the self-titled second album by Eddi Reader (ex-Fairground Attraction), Gary co-wrote "Scarecrow" along with Boo Hewerdine and Eddi Reader. (As an an aside, there are a few other Boo Hewerdine co-written songs on the album, including "The Joke" which also appears on Boo's "Baptist Hospital" album.
Danny Wilson's cover of David Bowie's "Kooks" appears on the new David Bowie tribute CD called "David Bowie Songbook". Published in England by Connoisseur Collection Ltd. (1997)
MIDI
Cicci Serra provided me with a MIDI version of Mary's Prayer. It is minus the vocal melody line, so it's perfect for singing your own rendition:-) Here's the lyrics if you need them.
Availability
The two Danny Wilson studio CDs are currently in-print in Europe. You can order them through several web sites, including www.cdnow.com. I think both compilation CDs are still in print as well. Amazon.co.uk has most Danny Wilson CDs and the Gary Clark solo CD. For a limited time, I can arrange a £5 gift certificate to be emailed to new customers (email me for more info).

Ignorance! (RIP)
Was once THE place to go to get the latest on many artists that Gary has worked with including Neil and Calum MacColl, Boo Hewerdine, Eddi Reader, Swiss Family Orbison (Kit Clark's band). Sadly, this site suffered a meltdown and it seems unlikely that it will be resurrected with the old content intact. I certainly wouldn't mind making some of the Gary Clark material available at this site if Andrew supplies it. We'll see...
Official UK Transister site
A nice, graphical site by Virgin/the Raft. A bit slow-loading, but plenty of interesting bits including some in-the-studio video. The intro copy is a bit cheeky though.
Lauren Christy
Gary contributed heavily to Lauren's second album. Some great tunes there, including a duet between Lauren and Gary called "Burn". Check out this fan site for more info, including some RealAudio samples.
Eddi Reader
A great fan-maintained resource for Eddi Reader, formerly of Fairground Attraction.
Swiss Family Orbison
Official site for Swiss Family Orbison, the band fronted by Gary's brother Kit Clark.
